Bank of Japan holds a total of JPY 504.8 trillion in assets

As per the BOJ data, at the end of June 10 2017, the central bank held a total of JPY 504.8 trillion in assets, of which Japanese government securities accounted for JPY 430.6 trillion.

Despite the massive expansion of the balance sheet, inflation remains well below the 2% target. The bank is under pressure to detail how it intends to unwind/downsize the balance sheet and whether the process will be smooth.

The BOJ is expected to keep rates unchanged today and reiterate the necessity to run the QE program as inflation remains weak.
